Statement of Teaching
As an educator and composer, it is my goal to preserve and share our rich musical history and scholarship with students and motivate the future generation to embrace a lifetime of learning and discovery. By having students actively participate in discussion and analysis I invite them to make discoveries which strengthen their individual analytical skills. As I believe students best remember information through personal breakthroughs I guide my students to independent discovery which allows them to internalizing information. The aspiration I have for my students is that they retain the knowledge shared and learned during a given course. It is my intent that every student reinforces their understanding and proves their proficiency in a given subject through regular assessments, term papers, midterm exams and final exams. My pedagogical method is versatile as I am receptive to the specific needs of a particular group of students and structure my lessons accordingly. At the core of my teaching is the belief that all students, no matter what their social circumstances or level of experience, have the potential to grow and learn. It is my goal that students leave class with the capacity to reflect on, analyze, and continue to their journey of discovery in music.
